The HC-2020R is essentially the HC-2020 with one very useful addition — a 5-position rotating handle that makes a genuine difference when you're working at awkward angles or cutting the tops of hedges. For the extra £40 over the standard model, it's a worthwhile upgrade for anyone doing more than just straight-sided trimming.
The rotating handle lets you keep your wrists and arms in a comfortable position regardless of the cutting angle, which reduces fatigue considerably during longer sessions. It's the kind of feature that sounds like a minor convenience until you've spent an hour with your arms above your head on a fixed-handle machine.
Everything else carries over from the HC-2020 — the same laser-cut double-edged Japanese blades, the same 534mm cutting length, the same well-balanced 4.6kg body, and the same reliable 21.2cc low-emission engine. The blades are laser-cut on this model rather than standard cut, which gives them a slightly finer edge and longer-lasting sharpness.
